Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis

MEASURING BODY COMPOSITION AND METABOLISM USING BIOELECTRICAL IMPEDANCE ANALYSIS

We use state-of-the-art Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis on all of our weight loss clients* to measure metabolism, calculate calorie and protein needs, and ensure that they are losing weight in a safe and efficient way.

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis or BIA is one of the most reliable methods of assessing body composition – including body fat percentage, lean muscle mass, total body water and cellular health.

BIA works on a simple principle of water conduction. A large percentage of the human body is made up of water, and water is a great conductor of electricity. However, the body does not store this water uniformly throughout the body; lean muscle contains a lot of water, while fat tissue has practically none. Because of this, electrical current travels freely through muscle, but in fat it meets resistance. During BIA a small, safe electrical signal is passed through your body, and the device measures this resistance. It uses that data, along with other input such as your height, age, weight, and gender, to determine your precise body composition.

What to Expect
While lying down, electrodes are attached to the hand and foot and a small electric signal is circulated. The test takes only a few minutes to complete and you won’t feel a thing!

*If you have a pacemaker or have had multiple joint replacements, you may not be eligible for Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis.
